5-Axis CNC Machining for RV Reducer Housing | Transmission Component
Client Background: German industrial robot OEM based in Bavaria, specialized in 6-axis heavy-duty industrial manipulators
Client Pain Points
The client’s previous local supplier delivered reducer housings with coaxiality over 0.012mm and severe deformation on thin-wall structures, resulting in excessive backlash after assembly and failing to reach the EU standard of ±0.02mm repeat positioning accuracy. Local production cost was 3.2 times higher than Asian outsourcing, pushing the brand to source reliable suppliers for custom 5-axis CNC reducer housing.
Custom CNC Machining Solution
DMG MORI 5-axis machining centers are adopted for one-setup full contour milling with forged 6061 aluminum blanks via combined turning & milling technology. Stress relief heat treatment eliminates thin-wall distortion; coaxiality of bearing mounting holes is controlled within 0.003mm with wall thickness tolerance ±0.008mm, followed by hard anodizing surface finishing.
Project Outcome
Finished product yield hits 99.7%. The reducer’s transmission efficiency rises from 86% to 92%, with zero excessive clearance after 8,000 hours of full-load continuous operation. Unit production cost drops by 38%. Our RV reducer housing CNC machining service has maintained stable bulk supply for over 2 years with an annual order volume of 120,000 sets. We also win follow-up orders for harmonic flex spline CNC machining for the client’s newly developed reducer series.
